Self Fulfilling Scale

You poke around the store, examining stones, card packs,

herbs, and odd trinkets.

In one corner, you spot a section dedicated to body enhancements.

There are tonics on display, self-help books,

incantations bound in little leather books.

You're surprised to see a glossy, commercial-looking box

containing a bathroom scale.

It advertises itself to read body weight and body fat percentage,

and even Bluetooth connects to an app on your phone.

You chuckle at the mismatch of modern technology

embedded amongst the Wiccan pieces

and decide you could use a new scale for your home.

Back at your hotel, sleepy after a day of beaching,

window shopping, and dining out,

you settle in and strip down for a bit of TV before bed.

You look over your purchase, seat it on the edge of the mattress,

and open the box to test out the scale and judge the damage

so far from your vacation.
