Throughout Gene's teenage years, Wynder had never met a girlfriend of his that she truly

liked. Some were better than others, but they never quite measured up. But now she was starting

to wonder what the cause of this was. Was she just being a protective person that was

picky about his relationship? Or was there another reason? Could it have been a subconscious

decision influenced by some underlying emotions that she had for Gene's? No, no, no, that's

absolutely not true. There's no reason for me to think like that. Until recently, everything

was fine, and I wouldn't be thinking about this if I had never even gone into this room

that day. All that's important now is moving forward and living what has happened in the

past. Gene's a good boy, he just needs me to put him in the right direction, that's

my job. Wynder was doing a very good job at ignoring her own actions on that day. She

continued to undermine the fact that she pleasured herself to the same fantasy she accuses Gene

of having. A moment of weakness, brought upon by fear of loneliness, a misguided attempt

to feel intimacy. In Wynder's mind, these were all perfectly reasonable explanations
