is the government's assumption about retirees' income from their financial assets.
But retiree groups generally are urging the federal government to at least halve the deeming rate
that affects access to the pension, for example.
After Josh Frydenberg, the Treasurer, revealed the income assessment measure was, as I said, under review again.
Now, of course, in response to falling market interest rates last year,
the government cut the deeming rate on the first $51,800 of investment assets from 1.75% to 1%.
But groups are saying they've got to go again because the RBA data shows that nearly half of savings deposits
were earning less than 1%.
And so even the reduced deeming rate as of last year does seem overly generous compared to what a lot of people are getting.
So if you are a retiree and this affects you, you might want to have your say about this.
Does the deeming rate need to go down again?
It'll cost the budget, but this is costing you.
