Not far from this site, they found the ruins of an old fort or palisade,
which Bradford and the men believed to have been of Christian origin.
Much to the frustration of American historians, however,
Bradford offers no further description of the supposed fort they found.
He just mentions it in a single sentence and then goes on to describe a river,
and it never comes up again.
With such a vague description, it's really hard to make any sense of its extent.
But we'll circle back to it in a second, because later on in their expedition,
not very far from this alleged fort, the pilgrims encountered a grave,
which they dug up, and in it they found what seemed to have been
the remains of a European adult male with blonde hair.
