After I got out of the military, Johnny and I both had offers from an electronic company.
A little lighting.
I got to work on my idea about an old used x-ray unit.
And with my discharge money, Mary had finished nursing school and was working full time now.
She saw her paycheck kept us alive. Just barely.
My idea was to combine x-ray and infrared to make a device that could detect cancers.
I slaved at it day and night.
Mary would come home from work, checking on me.
She told me she had lived in poverty her whole life and this was much easier because she had me to live with it now.
Once again, she took me down from the ledge and I kept going.
I would talk to Johnny now and then to check on him and bounce ideas off.
